Week 2!
We are in Week 2! We just started with baby’s
bedtime routine on Monday night. They say you should start as you wish to go
on, and it’s never too early to start good habits etc. But I cut ourselves some
slack last week since it was week 1 back home and everything was a bit chaotic,
and I was really tired for the first few days. So we flaked out on the couch in
front of the TV in the evenings and The Baby was eating, sleeping, eating,
sleeping as he wished.
I tried white noise – does it work for
anyone’s baby? The sound kind of annoyed me at first, but then I fell asleep
myself while nursing the baby. He fell asleep quickly enough, but we’ll have to
try it for another few more nights before delivering a verdict on its
effectiveness. The dog hated it though, he looked at my phone (which was
playing the white noise video) like it was a foreign threatening object and
barked at it. Maybe in his lil doggo world, that is the sound when UFO lands on
his doggo earth. Must keeeel
whitenoiseeee!!
The Baby is getting more efficient at
nursing. His feeding sessions are getting shorter, sometimes just 15 mins and
he’s sorted for the few hours. During the earlier weeks, if he only fed for
this short of a duration and fell asleep, I knew he wouldn’t have had enough
and would wake again soon for another feed. It’s a good sign, and my boy is
growing up way too fast! Ohh the early daysss. I remember days and nights when
he used to nurse for 50-90mins a session, then get up again wanting to nurse 15
mins later. It was intense but The Baby was “making his milk” (in the words of
my sister-in-law) and I credit those grueling sessions for establishing my milk
supply now.
Also, parenthood truly changes people. The
man and I were discussing about going to a good friend’s birthday party this
past weekend and he asked how many bottles we were going to bring. And I
genuinely thought he was talking about bottles of booze, but instead he was
asking about how many bottles of milk to bring to last through the night. I
wonder when we would get our cool back. Maybe when the kid turns 18.
