The Sweetest Thing

Bubba is getting bigger, more alert and interactive with his environment, which is just so joyous to watch. His nursing persona is getting more colourful too. He's always been an eager, impatient nurser at the breasts with his powerful and forceful latch-on (hence the nickname little barracuda) since birth. The kind, sweet nurse lady who coached me to breastfeed after delivery remarked that he much preferred mommy's nipple to the bottle, because she saw how less-than-enthused he was when he was given the bottle in the nursery - and that just made this mama feel soooo happy.

Now he can visually focus more and he takes in more of his environment. Sometimes he'd look up at me with big puppy eyes when he nurse. Lately he even started smiling, nipple in mouth, when I say hi to him and ask how he's doing. It'll cause him to unlatch and I'd have to remind him that he is hungry.

It truly is the sweetest thing and I am all kind of mush when he does that 💓💕💖💗💘💜💜💜💜

(This picture is unrelated to nursing, and I've yet to be able to capture him doing the puppy eyes thing - but he looked so funny here trying to focus 😁)

Sometimes, he'd be angry that I'd left him go hungry for so long (ie a few minutes while I get into position / get the pump ready to nurse) that he'd grab onto my shirt with his little balled up fist and will.not.let.go even as he is hungrily drinking, like so.

I'm missing him as I'm typing this because he is asleep. I remember an episode in FRIENDS where they'd just brought Emma home, and Rachel said to Phoebe and Monica that she was missing the baby RIGHT NOW because she was asleep (Rachel then, against advice from Phoebe woke the baby up and they spent hours trying to settle her afterwards - let's not do that!) and I understand that now. Funny how we spend hours trying to get the baby to settle and put him down to sleep, but when he does, I miss him 😍
